Group Health Insurance Underwriter (m/f/n)
SOFIA, BULGARIA
Employment Type: full-time
Your responsibilities:
- Risk assessment and pricing: Analyse requested insurance benefits (compare with the existing standard dhig’s ones or with similar non-standard benefits insured under other policies); analyse the group’s risk profile (industry, geographical spread across countries and regions, whether a local claims handler (TPA, Assistance) should be appointed or one of dhig’s global assistance partners is sufficient); analyse available medical claims and other (related) cost drivers; produce an indicative proposal and then a binding offer (including insurance rates, schedule(s) of benefits and special u/w conditions), and be ready to provide further recommendations and to quote alternative options in order to secure the group’s renewal or acquisition of a new group.
- Decision making with limited data: Formulate reasonable assumptions, run comparisons and self-checks, and document rationale for pricing and insurance terms and conditions; when doing so, collect opinion of colleagues, external experts and reinsurers.
- Modelling claims experience and pricing recommendations for various segments of dhig’s portfolio (incl. individual policies’ book of business) – for the company’s management, brokers, insurers and reinsurers.
- Policy and referral compliance: Follow underwriting guidelines and referral protocols and escalate complex or out‑of‑guideline cases.
- External interaction: Present underwriting rationale, negotiate terms with reinsurers to support renewals and RFP responses. Also, from time to time, you may be invited to join communication with a broker or a policyholder about the proposed pricing, if the company’s management prefers so and if you have no objections to such a direct communication.
- Cross‑functional collaboration: Communicate with colleagues from sales and claims, and also, from time to time, with legal and finance to align pricing, insurance terms and conditions and settlement procedure (if non-standard).
Ideal Candidate Profile:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree
Skills & Experience:
- Professional experience in the medical/health/life insurance industry
- Successful experience of executing duties similar to those described above (even if the “underwriter” term has not been a part of your job title)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel; basic PowerPoint
- Conceptual thinking; strong analytical skills
- Comfortable in a fast paced, high production environment
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
